In fact\, his grandfather was a guitar/bass player who also performed at The Grand Ole Opry. \nWhen his parents gave him a banjo at age 12\, he began taking lessons and attending local bluegrass jams and he was soon hooked. \nListening to Earl Scruggs\, Bela Fleck\, and all things bluegrass\, he also became interested in other styles of music including Jazz\, Irish\, and Blues. While taking banjo lessons he would also seek out piano\, guitar\, and sax teachers to translate their styles to banjo. \nThis was not just for the love of the banjo but also for the love of live performance. Over the years Robert has performed thousands of live shows across the USA and abroad; in 2013 he was honored to perform at Carnegie Hall. \nRobert has recorded with many great musicians including Larry Keel\, Clay Jones\, and Patrick McAvinue. Roberts solo studio release\, “Somewhere in the Middle”\, was written and produced by Robert\, showcasing his versitile songwriting skills and includes an all star cast of musicians. \n“Somewhere in the Middle” also caught the attention of Bluegrass Today and Bluegrass Unlimited who both published rave reviews and high praise of the project. Currently Robert is touring the US full time with around 100 dates a year on the calendar. The covers range from singer/songwriters from the 60s and 70s like Simon and Garfunkel and James Taylor\, current pop hits from One Direction and The Chainsmokers\, and everything in between. \nI have a bachelor’s degree in classical guitar and have played lead guitar and sang vocals in classic rock\, indie\, pop punk\, and metal bands. I utilize the classical guitar training to create my acoustic arrangements of covers\, combining the elements of bass\, guitar\, and driving percussive energy all on a single guitar. \nI have a YouTube channel (Red Hawes) with original and cover videos. I play acoustic arrangements of covers as well as my own originals. The covers range from singer/songwriters from the 60s and 70s like Simon and Garfunkel and James Taylor\, current pop hits from One Direction and The Chainsmokers\, and everything in between. \nI have a bachelor’s degree in classical guitar and have played lead guitar and sang vocals in classic rock\, indie\, pop punk\, and metal bands. I utilize the classical guitar training to create my acoustic arrangements of covers\, combining the elements of bass\, guitar\, and driving percussive energy all on a single guitar. \nI have a YouTube channel (Red Hawes) with original and cover videos. I have an additional channel (Drew Hawes – Noah’s Gigs with Friends) that has videos from performances with the bands I have been in\, past and present\, as well as solo performances.
