With our Apple Beer, we attempted to create the best of both worlds by combining a pilsner recipe with 300 gallons of fresh-pressed apple juice from Glaize Apples of Winchester.
The Perfect Farm Fresh Fall Beer
We created a bone-dry, slightly spiced, warming Apple Beer that still has that fresh-pressed apple taste, perfect for fall weather. This beer was hopped with Amarillo to balance out the sweeter flavors of the malt and juice, and we spiced it with cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and allspice to complete the flavor profile.
This hybrid beer comes in at 5.5% ABV and 16 IBUs and is dangerously delicious. Cheers!

Introducing Pumpkin Pie Brown Porter – 5% ABV – 20 IBUs
It’s the season of Pumpkin Spice and we’re in full swing here at the farm. We’ve crafted our Pumpkin Pie Brown Porter to tantalize your taste buds and get you your Fall favorite fix.
Over 100 pounds of Pie Pumpkins, locally sourced from Loudounberry Farms, were roasted on our farm and tossed into the mash. In addition, we spiced our beer with a blend of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, clove, and allspice to complete the Pumpkin Spice flavor and compliment the sweetness of the roasted gourd.
This beer is spooky good at 5% ABV and is a suitable replacement for your morning Pumpkin Spice latte. Cheers!
Locals Supporting Locals
We are excited to partner with the family at the Loudoun Berry Farms to create another seasonal favorite – come on out and taste the difference freshness makes. #localsupportinglocal

To all of our 5,000 guests, partners, musicians, and volunteers who made up our 1st Annual Oktoberfest on the Farm, we would like to say danke schön! We are excited to share images of this kick-off tradition here at our farm in Lovettsville.
In addition, the Town of Lovettsville provided the Weiner dog race track, with Vice Mayor Chris Hornbaker refereeing, Wes Boucher emceeing, and Ryan Hornbaker and Lydia Sturrock assisting in the races. Including the support from 1836 Kitchen & Taproom who hosted the Weiner dog weigh-in on Friday.
A few partners, that made the weekend great:
Guests enjoyed German fare by The Polished Foxx, delicious beers brewed on-site, and Lovettsville’s annual wiener dog races! Guests had the opportunity to participate in stein hauling and stein hoisting contests while listening to Blaskapelle Alte Kameraden Band (a 9 piece polka band) as well as the community sing-a-long of Bohemian Rhapsody by Ghost Pepper Band introduced by Lovettsville Mayor Nate Fontaine.
A special thank you to The Hive Bakeshop in Brunswick for making our cookie necklaces for the Weiner dog races, stein hauling, and stein hoisting races as well as providing us with our very own spent grain dog treats.
We added a few new brews just in time for Oktoberfest weekend including Marzen Bier (4%ABV), NEIPA (Military Hop, 6%ABV), and Virginia Farmhouse Saison: A Virginia Brewers Guild Collaboration Beer (5.15%ABV).
Our Musicians for the Oktoberfest Celebration:
What can we say, the venue and atmosphere come alive with the talented bands who joined us over the three-day celebration, including:
Ghost Pepper Band
Jake Philips and Pete Thomas
Gary Smallwood
Blaskapelle Alte Kameraden
Chris Timbers Band

Virginia Farmhouse Saison: A Virginia Brewers Guild Collaboration Beer (5.15%ABV):
We’ve participated in the collaboration beer in celebration of the 10 year anniversary of the Virginia Craft Brewers Guild and have made our Virginia Farmhouse Saison. This beer has a subtle funkiness and bone dry finish perfect for the approaching Autumn season.
A Collaborative Effort
We acquired Cherokee Purple Tomatoes from Hamilton Hop Farms and roasted yellow squash grown here at Flying Ace Farm and incorporated them into the mash. This brings a slight sweetness from the roasted squash flesh and a very subtle fresh earthy tomato flavor. We also used a Virginia local yeast supplier, Jasper Yeast Labs, and used their American Saison yeast strain that was propagated from a wooden barrel found at an archaeological dig site in Alexandria.
We are proud members of the Virginia Craft Brewers Guild and hope you enjoy our collaborative efforts. Cheers.

I started homebrewing when I was 19 and ended up really enjoying it. I decided I wanted to pursue brewing as a potential career, so in 2016, I secured an internship/apprenticeship with Coelacanth Brewery in Norfolk, Va. I stayed there long enough to build a resume, about 7 months, and then snagged a job as a cellarman for Strangeways Brewing in Richmond, Va. I stayed there for almost 5 years, working my way all the way up to Head Brewer. Strangeways gave me the opportunity to expand my brewing knowledge and experiment with unique practices.
Enter Flying Ace Farm
I heard about Flying Ace through a friend and their vision of a true farm-to-table concept intrigued me so I decided to apply for the position of Head Brewer. Flying Ace Farm is appealing for several reasons, the first being the location. After being in Richmond and Norfolk for most of my life, it was time to go somewhere less crowded and Lovettsville is a beautiful place with a lot of charm. This Brewery also has a great management team that is very receptive and knowledgeable and has provided a top-notch facility that’ll allow me to make some gnarly brews. To me, the decision to relocate was a no-brainer.
Farm Fresh Brewery
There’s also something to be said about farm breweries, which in my opinion, is the next big beer trend. Having the capability to incorporate ingredients grown right in our own backyard excites me and for consumers, the idea of how close they can get to the source of the product all while supporting local farmers and businesses became the perfect catalyst in my decision to join the Flying Ace team. With that said, the opportunities to indulge my passion are endless.
A Beer Brewers Dream
As far as my favorite beers to make, I’m a big sour and lager fan. I enjoy making beers that can be enjoyed in the sun with moderate abv so you can enjoy more than just one in a sitting. My favorite drinking beer is Anderson Valley’s “The Kimmie, The Yink, and the Holy Gose” but my all-time absolute favorite beer is Boulevard Brewing’s “Love Child No. 4.” The absolute perfect beer in my opinion.
Since coming on board, Tom has released several new recipes that are now on tap. They are:

The brew team at Flying Ace Farm has been busy! We have a new selection of handcrafted beers coming to the flight line. So, sit back, pull the screen a bit closer and dive into these new flavor descriptions and images.
Pilot’s Pilsner German Pilsner, 6.3% ABV, 12 IBU’s German Pilsner malt in conjunction with Lager yeast fermented at ale temperatures makes our Fortified Pilsner stand out. Malty sweetness balanced with Hallertau and Tettnang hops allows for an easy-drinking, higher ABV pilsner that’s sure to become “I don’t know what to get so I’ll get the pilsner” or even your favorite easy drinking go-to. Either way cheers and enjoy responsibly.
Belly Check Pale Ale American Pale Ale, 6%, 35 IBU’s Our American Pale Ale utilizes Amarillo, Trident, Mosaic, and Lotus hops to give you a fruity, citrusy, and fresh-tasting pale ale. American pale ale malt and a fast fermentation leave this beer with a dry finish and tropical flavor. It will leave you wanting another, which we can do. Cheers.
But Wait there’s More
If that doesn’t get your curiosity flowing – we have more coming soon. Check these flavorful creations on tap for release in the very near future.
Fruited Sour Ale, 4.5% ABV, 12 IBU’s “It’s summertime, and the livin’s peachy”. Peaches harvested locally from Brossman’s Farm were blanched, peeled, and grilled over red oak by Monk’s BBQ. Rosemary gathered from our farm was infused into our White Dog Whiskey for over a week and then spritzed on the peaches throughout the grilling process. The peaches were then added at the end of our boil to produce a smoky and sweet peach finish to this sour ale. This beer is a staff favorite, and we hope it becomes yours as well.
Bloody Butcher Tangerine Cream Ale Cream Ale, 5.0% ABV, 18 IBU’s A true example of “farm to glass”, our cream ale recipe includes almost 300 pounds of our heirloom Bloody Butcher Corn grown here on our farm. The corn imparts a super creamy mouthfeel and leaves a residual sweetness after each sip. To complement this flavor, we juiced tangerines and added it cold-side, and then hopped with Amarillo hops in order to celebrate our heirloom grain. A cream ale unlike any other, from a farm brewery unlike any other; cheers and enjoy.
